Album Review | Itch | The Deep End

itchThe King Blues have gone, I hate to break it to you that way, but it’s time to move on, and this is exactly what Itch the former lead vocalist of King Blues has done by releasing his long-awaited solo album The Deep End via Red Bull records.

March 24th is the date you will be able to get your hands on this so wait in line to catch your copy. Many artists feature on this record creating a different sound to what you may have expected. The lyrics and his flow is still there, the music is obviously different. It’s the radio friendly sound that may surprise many fans.

The Deep End starts with Life is Poetry where Itch flows lyrically like a Zack De La Rocha from Rage against the Machine. There is a nice guitar riff that accompanies the vocals. Sun goes down follows on and has more of a dub step sound to it. The Deep End is a furore of musical entanglements.

Adam Lazzara of rock band Taking back Sunday makes an appearance in the upbeat tune Homeless Romantic which has a definite radio sound, that will get many chanting the words to the chorus. Itch has offered the chance to the listeners to hear what Adam can do. Raise your glass for the homeless romantic.

One of the highlights is Laugh; a chilled out vibe which is about a bad day. Featuring Matisyahu who works well with Itch’s flowing rap style “I just have to laugh while the whole world crashes down, I be laughing like..ha ha haa haha” also words such as “living one life so just gotta live right now” provides a definite feel good sound to this.

There is an experimental feel to what works on the album and there are a couple of tunes that don’t feel right such as Like I’m Drugs. It does sound like a Professor Green track. This leads on to a beautiful tone from Megan Joy on Another Man, beautiful sounds that fill the air that can get you to dance like a few people are watching.

Bottom of the Glass is powerful and meaningful “sobering thoughts they started me drinking” “over-thinking, over drinking”. Itch pushes this track to the forefront of edgy with in your face words. A street kid who wasn’t born with this rage is what Itch mentions in Not My Revolution, building a life with music being strong and true to himself this makes not my revolution a chilled out with angst a top tune from this record.

With experimental work on this record in The Deep End lets the spit fly out, there is no messing about with his music. Edgy vocals moves on to Children of the Revolution an ode to the legends like Jimi Hendrix, Joe Strummer and Jon Lydon, this is powerful and the highlight of this impressive record. Proof this talented individual is willing to try anything out there and make it work.

Get it and jump in at the Deep End.
