Album Review | Natives | Indoor War

NativesIt’s here! The eagerly anticipated debut album of Natives has finally landed and we could not be more excited about this.

The pop/rock quintet from the New Forest, previously known as ‘Not Advised’ worked on this album with none other than John Feldmann – a LA based producer who has worked with the likes of Good Charlotte, Panic! At The Disco and The Used. The final result of their hard work is here after the band relentlessly touring up and down the country for many years to get their music out there.

Indoor War takes on the concept of telling a story based on a character named ‘Alvima’, the band say: ‘“Indoor War tells the story of a character called Alvima who suffers a huge loss and can’t deal with the pain. He decides that from this moment on, he will live his life making decisions based upon logic and science rather than emotions. We were fascinated by this idea of a conflict between science and love all going on inside someone’s head.”

Bearing this in mind, I sat down to play ‘Indoor War’ for the very first time…

The album starts very delicately with track ‘War Inside Of Me’ which sets the scene perfectly for the rest of the album with its dynamic and authentic sounds. Next up is ‘This Island’ which the band released as a single last summer – a definite crowd pleaser with its undeniable catchy chorus.

Can’t Say No’ is the band’s new single which they just recently revealed the video for. This track is a great sing-a-long and a feel good song, a theme which I feel will carry on throughout the album.

Each track within ‘Indoor War’ tells a story and really paints a picture of Alvima’s overall story, yet is relatable to us all. I really like the concept Natives have created and the idea behind the album.

Another great track is ‘L.O.V.E’ which slows the pace down with a chilled vibe and really shows off front man Jim Thomas’ vocals.

I thought I had found my favourite track on the album until I reached ‘The Horizon’. Now if this isn’t a feel good song then I don’t know what is. It immediately kicks in to a beat that you can’t but help tap your feet to or even get up and dance! This is most definitely going to get the crowd going when played live.

With having only mentioned a few of the tracks from ‘Indoor War’, overall the album explores an interesting tale of science and love with catchy choruses and feel good rhythms that leave you hooked for days.

It is clear to see how much work the band have put into creating this album and developing their sound. ‘Indoor War’ was worth the wait and will be my soundtrack to summer 2014!

‘Indoor War’ is released on Monday 17th March and you can pre-order from iTunes and Amazon.
