An Evening With; Cruel Intentions

American pop-punk band An Evening With present their energy packed album.

The highlights of the album;

Bridge to nowhere has one of the most relatable lyrics of the album, as I’m sure many people have felt ‘on a bridge to nowhere’. The song is a good showcase of the bands talent through the use of many combinations and is extremely catchy. It has been put together cleverly using a mix of the tempo and rhythm throughout and is one that would transcend to a live set easily.

Die For You begins with a clever introduction in a different style than you would expect from your typical pop-punk bands. The format of the lyrics is styled in your typical love song, yet the tempo makes it suitable for those who aren’t used to your ‘typical’ love songs but still want to show your affection.

For Ever Young is another song which has lyrics the audience can relate to. The drums are used particularly well in separating the sections of the song, which is a point that will allow much crowd interaction for the band if this song was played live.

Hearts On Fire Again is again another showcase of how the band build up the anticipation of their songs from the first chord played. It is one of the strongest songs on the album and the mix of rhythms work well for the format of the song differentiating the paces throughout.

Luck & Cruel Intentions is the song which the album title features and is one of the stronger sounds from the album, making this reason understandable. It is another song that manages to showcase the bands talent in their mixed introductions and variety of tempos. Again the band manage to relate the lyrics so that the audience can relate to the song with ease.

Other tracks include those such as One Track Mind, Long Island (This Is Home), When I See You (Shake What You Got) and Time After Time.

Overall, An Evening With project has the feel of your typical American pop-punk band. If as much energy goes into the album live, as it sounds on CD, it can be imagined that the band would put on a good live set. An Evening With show they understand what issues are in their fanbase lives and show this in their song lyrics. The band use a lot of different methods within their songs showing they have a wide ability range to create different sounds for the album. Unfortunately, the majority of their songs are very similar to a lot of same style bands, which is their only downfall, and if they want to stand out from the rest, they may still have a little work to do.
