Attack Attack! ; ‘Attack Attack!: Deluxe Reissue’

By Ryan Wilkinson

Attack Attack! released their self-titled second album ‘Attack Attack!’ June 2010 via Rise Records. It was not long after this that Johnny Franck (clean vocals) left the band to focus more on his relationship with God. Sean Mackowski of My Ticket Home temporarily replaced Franck during their tours. Caleb Shomo has now permanently replaced Franck and June 7th 2011 saw the release of ‘Last Breath’ which is the first song to feature Caleb providing vocals for the band.

Attack Attack! have now reissued a deluxe edition of their self-titled album featuring four new songs, two remixes and two acoustic performances. Amongst the original album track list you will find ‘Last Breath’, ‘Pick A Side’, ‘Criminal’ and ‘All Alone’. All of which see Caleb performing vocals for the band. These four tracks almost appear to be a preview of things to come as the band prepare for a third album to be released sometime in 2012. They all contain that same metalcore edge as their previous releases and feel a lot more fresh and defined. Caleb certainly meets the standard and fits in well with Attack Attack! and it seems good things are sure to come with this new addition to the band.

Caleb also features on the two acoustic tracks, ‘Turbo Swag’ and ‘I Swear I’ll Change’. Here his true talent shines through these excellent pieces, again proving he’s the right man for the job.
The two remixes are electro remixes of ‘Sexual Man Chocolate’ and ‘AC-130’. A fun and interesting addition to this reissue providing a new variety to the album.

This new deluxe release feels more like it’s purpose is to prove Caleb is an adequate replacement for Franck and give an example of the results their future with him may bring, rather than a mark of their success. It offers a fresh look at what the past year has brought to the metalcore act, but some may argue it is not enough to amass a re-release of an entire album. Despite a lack of content, the extras you do receive with this reissue do not disappoint. Recommended for any hardcore Attack Attack! fan.
