Francobollo; Harpholma

By Oz Page

Imagine it’s 2006 and you have just spent an hour wading through shit bands on MySpace to finally come across an artist that isn’t making an ill attempt to be alternative by describing itself as ‘Religious Pop’. Well, Francobollo do describe their music as ‘Religious Pop’ but it doesn’t matter because they are actually alternative.

Resisting the temptation to use standard blog language and terms like ‘Art Rock’ (Which is just vague) their muddy, droning sound is exactly the kind of thing your Grandmother will hate. In fact, if I were to create a playlist of music not to play at my grandmother’s funeral, it would involve Klaxons, Death From Above and Francobollo. But fear not, small Nana demographic, their style is not solely noise punk, the glimmer of pop harmony that outlines their music adds major sing along factor.

Their new EP ‘Harpholma’ has found a distinct balance between heavy and hooky that I expect will have them surfing across the Nation’s blogs before you can shout ‘Art Rock is a vague term that doesn’t necessarily describe anything at all’.
