Pegasus Bridge; While We’re Young

If you haven’t heard of Pegasus Bridge, we can assure you that you will in the future. The band’s first single seen them being immediately invited to record a live session at Maida Vale for Huw Stephens and from this they were asked to open at the Radio 1 Big Weekend Festival.

Since then, they have shared stages with the likes of Futures, You Met At Six, General Fiasco and Johnny Foreigner and with an album as strong as this, it wouldn’t surprise me if they become much bigger in 2011.

Ribena overall is an extremely catchy song. With a strong introduction and the lead singers vocals suiting the style of music extremely well, the song comes across effortlessly. With it’s extremely quirky lyrics, the band show they can cleverly write their songs with a strong chorus, whilst containing a funny twist to it. With this, you can’t help but singing along by the time the chorus comes around again! It is extremely catchy and a very good introduction to show what the band are capable of.

Yoko hosts a strong introduction and again the vocals are very strong and work well at the start of the song. The lyrics are no doubt very relatable for most teenagers and the band show that they are extremely appealing to a wide audience with their musical stylings, cleverly written lyrics and stories behind their songs. The way in which the vocals are used in the song is very clever and works extremely well. The band show they can perform a different style from the first song with ease.

Dogs is yet another extremely strong song and can easily be imagined live from the introduction with space for crowd interaction easily. The lyrics again are very powerful and contagious, as the band seem to do with ease.

While We’re Young proves why it was chosen as the album’s title. It is again extremely catchy and the instrumental section is also done well in the track. This is a song which you cant help but tap along to and has a nice addition with the electronic stylings within the chorus. This works well with the style, despite it seeming an unusual choice, it gives the track a good edge. The lyrics are again very down-to-earth and shall be easy for the listeners to relate to without a doubt as they shall all be going through the same situation about becoming ‘older’, no matter what age they are!

Violence has a strong drumming introduction – again a point which would transcend live easily. This song is a slower track on the album, which showcases the vocals strength even more than the rest of the tracks. It is surprising that the vocals of the band are strong throughout the album; no matter what style the band take on. The topic they have chosen to write this song on, violence, and the way they deal with it is extremely clever and also touching if you listen closely to the lyrics. As the song’s rhythm is not too slow it disguises the underlying serious tones, but with listening to the vocals you realise the meaning behind the song and the powerfulness of doing such with the track, yet another clever technique to keep you involved. Within the song there is a clever use within the ‘voicemail’ section, which works well and is a completely different unexpected twist to the track.

Pegasus Bridge have the basics in their album to become big. The vocals are strong and suit the musical stylings well and it is easy to see they could share the fan base with bands such as Kids In Glass Houses, General Fiasco and You Me At Six. They are a strong band and it would definitely not be a surprise if you hear a lot more from Pegasus Bridge in the future. The bands vocals stand out from the rest and are extremely strong, through the album. You can also see that they can do many different styles with their cleverly written lyrics and showcase the bands instrumental and vocal talents with ease.

If you’re looking for a new band that you can say you knew before they were famous – listen to this album now before everyone else latches on!
