Graham Clark
It is all too easy forget that Peter Andre had a musical career before “I’m a Celebrity….Get me out of Here”.
Most also forget that he is a singer and trained dancer too.
His new album Angels and Demons sees him continuing to develop his sound. Inspired by Michael Jackson, the opening track on the album ‘What A Girl’ starts off sounding like Jackson’s ‘Wanna Be Startin Something’ until the track finds Andre moving into Taio Cruz territory. The album has enough R&B slow tracks to keep his faithful fans happy (‘Bad as You Are’, ‘Angels and Demons’).
‘Not a Love Song’ sees Andre covering a track that recalls Usher in his prime.
It is as the album continues that he moves out of his comfort zone and it starts to get even more interesting. ‘Ignition and ‘Analogue Is Dead’ are two superb dance tracks that if they were performed by the more fashionable Swedish House Mafia or Calvin Harris, they would be hailed as future dance classics. They really are that good. Andre’s fans may not appreciate the two tracks – analogue might be dead but Andre is living the high life in the digital world on these electronic dance tracks.
The album closes with him back in ballad mode on ‘Lift The Sky’ – a track that seems to be the song Westlife never recorded and one which Andre’s fans will probably cherish and sounds like a Christmas hit.
Listen without prejudice – this is an album that deserves to be heard by the majority and not just by his fan base.
