Sidelock; Lifeboats

Edinburgh based band Sidelock promise ‘big things are about to happen’ with their release of their EP Lifeboats.

With a Twin Atlantic vocal sound to the tracks, which is prominent on the EP, the band showcase their Scottish accent and do not try to ‘disguise’ where they are from which is a bonus that led to bands such as Biffy Clyro’s success.

Hospital Days has the basis of a good live song and it can be seen how this will easily transcend on stage. The lyrics in the song seem to be those which are relevant to many situations and will allow the audience to relate with their meaning in a personal way. The song is extremely catchy and is one that will have you tapping your feet along before the chorus approaches and is the strongest song on the EP.

Home is a slower track which again contains the defining scottish vocals. The song beings with an acoustic feel yet has a good build-up to the chorus. By keeping the verses simple this allows a different twist to the song which isn’t what you expect.

Lifeboats is the song which seems to allow the band to all showcase their talent. The song gives each instrument it’s ‘time to shine’ and also is a good way to see how the band work together in doing such. As mentioned before the lyrics from all the tracks could fit a number of meanings in everyones life and are extremely easily picked up from a few listens.

The songs are cleverly written and overall the EP has been produced very well.

Lifeboats is due for release on 28th July.
