EP Review | Hockeysmith | But Blood

hockeysmith‘But Blood’ is the debut EP brought to you by Cornish sisters Annie and Georgie Hockeysmith via double denim records.

Four tracks that vary in style and influences from genres such as jazz to indie rock.

Phantom Whistle starts off the EP in a haunting symphony vibe that’s meditative, but with a dangerous electronic beat. Two minutes pass as we head in to ‘But Blood reminiscent of The Kills and Alison Mosshart’s vocal style, mixed with avant garde electronic distortion. This would be right on the button when heard live within a huge tent with strobe lighting smashing its way around the crowd in a music festival, possibly ending with a brown paper bag to catch the breath.

Hesitate a definite highlight of the EP. Its distorted beats that the Hockeysmith sisters are able to penetrate with their vocal style, a wonderful mature sound that would be perfect on an advert or an intro to a slightly unhinged night club DJ. These two musical siblings need to be seen and heard.

The end is nigh with final song ‘Meanwhile’. This would be a good idea for guided meditation that you see on YouTube.

Their flexibility with their music is immense; it means they will not corner themselves in to one area. That is abundantly clear, as within these four tracks, there’s melancholic whale music to tunes that would have unhinged characters like eyeball Paul salivating into his vodka.

‘But Blood’ EP is out now with four tracks of suspense, these two talented sisters have plenty more in their closet that is waiting to come out.

The Hockeysmiths’ have arrived and follow them on:-
