Interview | Arthur Walwin

He’s gained attention on the airwaves with support from Radio 1 and amassed over 1 million YouTube views.

He writes and produces at his home studio and he’s performed gigs with the likes of Tom Odell, Rudimental and The Pigeon Detectives.

Now it’s time for Arthur Walwin to step it up, quite literally, as he performs at Wembley Area for the Street Dance XXL Championships.

Ahead of the momentous date in his career, we caught up with Arthur to allow him to introduce himself and his music to you.

First off, how would you describe your music?

A nice blend of Pop and Rock. Always heartfelt.

Which track would you recommend to our readers if they’ve yet to discover your music?

They should definitely check out my new single This Feels Like Summer! The perfect track to get the holidays started and begin enjoying the sunshine.

Which out of your cover tracks is your personal favourite?

I really enjoyed doing Rather Be by Clean Bandit. Loved that song the minute I heard it, so I’m happy I covered it and put my spin on it. I also really liked doing Let Her Go by Passenger, people really respond to that one.

What has been your favourite gig you’ve performed to-date?

I played a show in Paris last year at a boat-venue called La Dame De Canton. It was incredible and I actually can’t wait to go back there!

Are there any venues across the UK you would love to perform in?

The Roundhouse in Camden looks absolutely incredible inside. I’ve seen a couple of bands play there and it just seems like the best venue. Also, Academy 1 in Birmingham is pretty cool. Never seen a show there, but I’ve had a peep at it whenever I’ve played the Academy 2 and it seems like a pretty awesome room to be able to fill.

If you were heading out on a headline tour, which band/artist would be your dream support act?

I would absolutely love to have Jason Lancaster (Mayday Parade/Go Radio) play with me in the UK. He’s a singer songwriter from Florida and I’ve followed more or less every band he’s been in. I actually take a lot of influence from him and getting the chance to play with him would be incredible.

How does it feel to be playing Wembley Arena?

It’s not really sunk in yet. Still trying to get my head around it. Obviously I’m excited, but I’ve not felt the nerves kick in just yet.

What’s the one thing you’re most looking forward to about playing Wembley?

Just singing in front of that many people. It’s something I’ve dreamt about for such a long time. Nothing’s better than the audience’s reaction – and on such a large-scale is unthinkable to me still.

And finally, what should we look forward to in the next few months from yourself music-wise?

The new video is done and dusted! I really can’t wait to show that off to you all! That’ll be out in the next few weeks and then the single should be out July 21st!

Anything else you wish to add?

My band and I are very excited to get on the road this summer, so look out for us in a city near you very, very soon!
