Interview | Heyrocco

Five years ago, Nate Merli, Christopher Cool and Taco Cooper performed in a tiny garage space.

Their musical aspirations and desire to bring back the classic rock ‘n’ roll days, led to the formation of South Carolina trio Heyrocco.

As the band embarks on their debut headline UK tour, we caught up with the guys to find out more.

How is the tour going for you guys so far?

Tour has been incredible! We’re having a blast hanging out in a new country. Our music and accents have thus far received a lot of love and it’s nice to feel special.

Have there been any stand out dates?

Koko in London was unreal, maybe the biggest crowd we have ever played for! The Windmill in Brixton also had great mojo and was our first ever UK show.

Are there any remaining dates in particular you are looking forward to the most?

Yes! Heading up to Scotland and we’ve heard magnificent things. Playing both Glasgow and Edinburgh. Can’t wait for those as well as Bristol and our last London show.

What do you find are the main differences between an US and UK crowd?

UK crowds are loud, they drink more, and just have fun! As opposed to US crowds which can be a little quiet sometimes, especially if you are a new band to them.

If you had to pick one track to introduce UK fans to your music, what would it be?

We would like everyone, not only UK, to listen to our song ‘Melt’. It is loud and sweet and the perfect tempo for jumping.

What’s been your favourite thing about touring in the UK?

The beer is great, the fans are great. We have a driver here and that takes a lot of work/pressure off the band. It gives us more time to rest/focus and answer questions like I am right now!

What are your plans for the rest of 2014?

We plan to wrap up this tour and push the release of a few new songs and videos, we especially can’t wait to get home for turkey, gravy, ahh it’s too early to be talking Thanksgiving and Christmas..or is it?

Anything else you wish to add?

You just let these people know rock music is not dead and if they want a rock ‘n’ roll show you know where to find it.

The band’s new track ‘Melt’ is available to download for free via the band’s Soundcloud.
