Interview | The Scheme

The Scheme are no strangers to the stage.

From piano training to school productions, the pop trio kickstarted their musical journeys at a young age, individually discovering a passion for music.

Forming as a band last year after a chance meeting in a recording studio, The Scheme have already launched themselves into the music spotlight gaining more than 80,0000 fans on social media and racking up over 600,000 views on YouTube.

As the trio prepare to release their new EP ‘Jerome Heights’ before heading on tour with Union J in early 2017, we caught up with the guys to find out more about their music.

For those who haven’t stumbled across The Scheme, can you tell us about the formation of the band?

Well, after spending many years in London, we just happened to meet in a studio while doing a few different writing sessions. We had such strong musical chemistry, we decided to form and band – and the rest is history!

How would you best describe The Scheme sound?

You could say it’s a fusion of a few different influences from all of us. Think Coldplay meets Maroon 5 meets Lawson, but with our own new twist.

Which artist/bands do you take the most influence from?

We take influence from so many different people including The Beatles, George Benson, Coldplay, Stevie Wonder, Justin Timberlake and many more.

You’re set to release your new EP on October 28th, how did you go about the writing process for the release?

We have a co-writer who we work with often, Ginger Mackenzie, and she lives in Jerome (AZ) which is a tiny little town 6000ft up in the mountains. We love going there to write because it’s such a beautiful, relaxing and inspiring place to create. It also helps that the studio sits right at the top, with a view of over a hundred miles on a clear day so we stayed there for a few weeks and the ‘Jerome Heights’ record was born!

Next year, you’re set to tour with Union J – what three things can we expect from your support set?

We are preparing our set for the tour soon and we’re very excited for everyone to hear it! Be prepared to hear the EP with an awesome live twist, plus we have a few new special covers that we’re going to be playing too! We’re really looking forward to everyone hearing the new set.

What are your band aims for the final few months of 2016?

The EP drops on the 28th and we’re super excited for that! We’ve been getting really positive feedback so we hope everyone really likes it. We’re going to be playing a few gigs throughout the rest of the year & preparing our show for the tour in Feb!
