We caught up with Daisy Hicks to tell us more about her musical influences, international success and her upcoming album release.

You’re British-born and Australian-raised, do you think your upbringing has influenced your music at all?

Australians love rock/pop and country music so I think that opens up your musical tastes and influences, I write all sorts of music and songs and you go through phases in your career. I really love the dance scene in Europe at the moment, that is what I’m focussed on right now.

Speaking of this, your father was a jazz-drummer and linked to Chris Rea, did he provide musical inspiration for yourself?

Yes of course, I spent many nights at my dad’s gigs when I was a kid, watching some truly great musicians playing live. It was always what I wanted to do from early age.

Who else would you cite as your musical inspirations?

I really love so many different artists and genres, I listen to all sorts for inspiration and it depends on what kind of song I feel like writing. I love great songs and appreciate people who are passionate and good at what they do – that is what inspires me whether they are famous or not.

You have co-written with Jeff Franzel, how did this come around?

I was working with a management company in Sweden and they put us together. I flew to New York for a few days and wrote ‘Million Years’ and two other songs with him. Jeff is such a great artist and writer, he is very inspirational!

You’ve had radio success across numerous stations over the world, how does this feel and did you ever expect this would happen?

It does bring a smile to my face if I hear my track on the radio but things are changing so fast there are so many different ways to discover music and other ways to promote yourself. Getting on radio isn’t the main focus any more. Things take off from so many other mediums nowadays, so lots of exciting work ahead!

What has been your favourite performance to-date?

I did a gig on the helipad of a hotel in Singapore, it was 77 floors up and I was singing pretty close to edge….. the invitation to the night was an iPod with 3 of my tracks on and everyone partied until 6am on free Champagne and Cosmos, it was surreal but great.

What is your favourite track of your new album ‘Hang Of This Life?’

I’m still writing it, so I will let you know soon!

If you where to describe your music ‘for fans of…’, which artists would you mention?

Dance pop I guess, I really love Robyn at the moment, she not only has great songs and production but she then does a stripped down acoustic version which shows off the song. I try to do both as well, one version with full production and another with guitar and vocals.

How would you describe your music for those who have yet to discover it?

It’s Dance/electro/pop with chill out acoustic versions in for good measure!!!

Which track would you say gives the best ‘taster’ of your music?

The Bodybangers remix of Million Years and there is more to come like that!

Is there anything else you wish to add?

Thanks so much for the interview and your support. I look forward to doing it again soon!
