Halfway To New York

Halfway To New York only appeared on the music scene last autumn with their debut single ‘Out of Time’.

Since then the band have already showcased their music in LA, been hand-picked by Live Nation to appear as one of their featured new artists and played a sell-out gig at London’s Barfly.

The band are set to release their debut EP ‘Treading Water’ on the 21st May.

We caught up with Halfway To New York to find out more.

How did you find your recent trip to America?

LA was awesome. Great weather, great people and we had a wicked time. We played a couple of gigs which went down really well. It was a strange feeling travelling 5000 miles, stepping out on stage and seeing people singing your songs…strange but brilliant! We’re currently in talks with a major agent about a support tour out there in a few months time – I think Scott has already got his bag packed.

Your EP is set for release this month, what can we expect?

Melody. Songs you can sing along to and lyrics that you’ll hopefully empathise with. It’s a pretty full-on sound and everyone who leaves our gigs goes away singing.

Which of the tracks is your favourite?

I think Treading Water is probably our favourite. Just because it’s about taking a chance and not feeling you have to conform – that’s what a career in music is all about.

Where do you gain your lyric inspiration from?

Stories, books, life…. The usual places but more often than not our songs start with the story and then evolve from there.

Which bands/artists would you cite as your strongest musical influence?

I don’t know about “influences” but we’re big fans of bands like Foo Fighters and Coldplay – whether that comes across in our music is for others to decide.

What has been your favourite gig to-date?

It has to be our recent sell-out gig at The Barfly in London. It was epic. To have that many people singing our songs was very special.

Do you have any festival plans for this year?

We’re still in negotiations with a few festivals so we can’t say anything yet but keep an eye on Facebook (Halfwaytonewyork) &Twitter (htnyband) for any announcements!

What can we expect from the band in 2012?

Loads more gigs in 2012 but in 2013 you can expect World Domination. Anything else would be an anticlimax 🙂
