The Patrick James Pearson Band

Crash bang and walloping straight out of Plymouth are dynamic trio The Patrick James Pearson Band who were once described as ‘a cross between At The Drive In and Ben Folds Five’.

After the success of the band’s first EP the band were picked out to perform on the Introducing Stage at Glastonbury.

Many, including Tom Robinson, raved about it their performance rendering them the number 1 “Most Shared” band at Glastonbury for a good 24 hours on the BBC Glastonbury website home page.

The band are currently touring around the country as special guests on the Hard-Fi Tour.

We caught up with Patrick himself to find out more!

You performed at Glastonbury this summer, how do you feel the crowd received your set?

It was a generous crowd, lapping the sides of the tent, confused by the duel keyboard setup, and the smell of stagnant mud. By the end we felt they had become an audience acting and re-acting to every hammer and hit of our music. We worked as hard as we could to convince them to stay, and they did.

With backing from the BBC, not only through festivals but also radio and TV, how does this feel knowing that they support your music?

The BBC are the most influential hands of modern music, we are graced that they have supported us so far. They have guided so many other bands through the ranks of career and success, and I hope they support other emerging British acts.

Your latest EP is titled ‘Reasons For Moving On’, how did you arrive at this title?

I was unhappy with where I was in life, a deadend relationship, no money and too many opinions on modern society. Just my way of venting my anger I guess.

Who would you cite as your strongest influences for your latest EP?

I wanted the raw power of The Stooges’ ‘Fun House’, The brood and cult grunge attitudes of early Nirvana, with a pop sensibility akin to Lennon, Ray Davies and bands like Wolf Parade and Les Savy Fav. Also where we were at that point, living in an attic signed off from work and trying to change our lives.

How would you describe your EP to those who have yet to experience it?

Its our heart and souls, our greatest heroes, loves, good times, bad times, hard work, books, Plymouth vibes and vices. Just merely documenting ourselves, so I guess some may take to it, some may not.

You do everything yourselves in terms of recording your music, do you believe that this gives your music more authenticity over a studio recording?

YEP. Not always the greatest mix, but we’re happy in imperfections.

What can fans expect from The Patrick James Pearson Band by the end of 2011?

We are planning a new EP to see in the New Year, more UK shows and making some new friends along the road.

Finally, what can we expect from your set on your upcoming support slot with Hard-Fi>

Everything, every night, sweat power and purpose.
