Two Door Cinema Club

We caught up with Two Door Cinema Club backstage ahead of their performance at this year’s Evolution Festival in Newcastle.

So first of all, are you excited to be playing here in Newcastle again?

Yes of course! We always enjoy playing here, the crowd always have such a great feel about them, we love Newcastle. First time we came here we liked it so much that we stayed a week – so we’ve definitely seen all the sights!

If you could describe the people of Newcastle in one word what would it be?

Well to be honest our opinions are a little bit generalised, seing as our tour manager is a geordie, so I’d have to say ‘scamp’… they’re pretty crazy people!

You’ve been touring a lot over the past year, have you had any strange experiences with fans?

Oh god.. so many! In fact the weirdest one was here in Newcastle. When we played a gig here last year a girl actually climbed on stage and full on tackled me from behind…it was pretty scary!

How has the past year been for you all?

Its been good. We’ve had so many great shows.

Do you have one song from your album Tourist History that you prefer performing to all the other tracks?

Yeah, ‘What you know’ is without doubt my favourite song to perform, it always gets a great reception from the crowd too, which is always a good thing!

Today you’re playing under Iggy and The Stooges, If you made a festival appearance alongside any other band (dead or alive) who would it be?

That’s actually a difficult one to say, because you wouldn’t want to go for someone that is too good otherwise they’re bound to make you look shit, but I guess the ideal performance would be under The Beatles – who wouldn’t want that?!

Random question, if you were forced to collaborate with either Susan Boyle or The Hoff.. who would it be?

Wow. Subo definitely! I think shes got a bit more creditability about her. If it was The Hoff you definitely know he would fuck it up somehow. Besides, I think the opera would work better with our sound.

Is there a particular festival you like playing at?

We’ve done loads of festivals all over the world, but Glastonbury is without doubt our favourite. It always has such a good feel about it.

What can TDCC fans expect in the near future?

Expect LOTS of festival appearances and also a new album pretty soon!!
