Introducing | Anna Pancaldi

Ahead of the release of her second EP ‘Dear Joey’, we caught up with Anna Pancaldi.

Produced by James Kenosha, the EP follows the success of her debut release ‘Black Tears’ which saw Anna Pancaldi’s name climb high in the iTunes singer-songwriter chart alongside James Bay and Ed Sheeran.

With her forthcoming EP release and headline London show at St Pancras Old Church, we caught up with Anna to find out more about her musical journey.

Can you tell us how you first got into music?

Music has always been a massively important part of my life. I have been singing and performing ever since I can remember, but I seriously first started pursuing my career in 2011. I haven’t looked back since!

Where do you gain your inspiration for writing?

I’ve always found inspiration in the things in life that have had the most impact on me, whether that be about the challenges of growing up, my passion for what I’m doing in music and how that makes me feel and love and loss. There is always so much to write about that I can’t put into words in conversation. In song there is an ease, which I love.

Have you found your musical style has changed over the years?

Definitely, it has evolved over time with the more songs that I write. It’s wonderful to now be in a place where I am confident and certain as to who I am as a songwriter and artist.

What have been the highlights of your career to-date?

The last year has been a beautiful one, full of firsts with a lot of hard work. My highlights so far though have to be reaching number six in the singer songwriter iTunes chart with my first release, selling out and playing my first headline show and getting my own infusion of gin made!

Your forthcoming EP ‘Dear Joey,’ is due for release next month, what can we expect from the release?

I’m incredibly proud of this EP. It’s got guts but is also melodic and I feel it’s an important and true progression from my first release. I really can’t wait for everyone to hear it.

Why did you decide to dedicate the EP to your siblings?

I wanted to dedicate the EP to the people who I love the most, what could be better than that? I owe them so much so making them as much a part of the release as possible feels like the appropriate thing to do.

Do you have any plans to tour around the release?

Absolutely! I have a London show at St Pancras Old Church on April 14th, which sold out six weeks in advance, I’m really happy about that! I’m doing a few UK dates and then I am touring the States in the summer, which is something I have wanted to do for a long time. I’m thrilled!

Anything else you wish to add?

Check out my infusion of gin, named after my brother Joe. ‘Joe’s Gin’ is an elderflower infusion as he used to make elderflower cordial for us as children. I also featured in a Levi’s advertising campaign last year. They used the track I wrote and performed on too which was amazing! It was brilliant fun travelling over Europe to film and wonderful exposure for me as an artist. I’m very grateful for all the support I’ve been shown so far.
