Introducing | Big Cosmos

Just one track was enough to get us intrigued about Big Cosmos.

The band from London have been recording over the past few months and have been releasing tasters of these sessions via YouTube.

With an air of mystery surrounding the London lads, we caught up with Big Cosmos to allow them to introduce themselves to you.

Can you tell us about the formation of Big Cosmos?

Four friends with a mutual love for music wanting to add value to their lives by channeling their communal energies into something they can be proud of.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t discovered the band?

BC’s influences come from a myriad of musical stylings; post-punk, late 80’s British guitar music, 70’s American songwriter, modern classical. Broadly speaking, it’s got guitars and keys and lyrics that grapple with modern issues and contemporary politics. Think Springsteen fronting the Cocteau Twins and you’re halfway there.

Who would be your dream band to tour with?

Tom Waits would be special. It’d be amazing to hear his voice and his lyrics each evening, and even better if we could share a conversation each night.

What can we expect from you guys throughout the rest of the year?

We’ve recorded a bunch of songs so you can expect to hear those! We’re most probably going to drip feed you with the bangers and leave the heavyweight ‘growers’ to be explored within the context of an album.

What artists/bands would you guys recommend at the moment?

Best thing I’ve heard in the last two weeks is the new Ryley Walker album. Other than that, I’ve been listening to a lot of Comsat Angels, Blue Nile, Red House Painters and Neil Young.

Anything else you wish to add?
