Introducing | BoyMeetsWorld

Ahead of the release of their debut album, we caught up with BoyMeetsWorld.

Due out on June 16th, ‘Become Someone’ will launch the band’s summer schedule when they will perform daily on the entire Vans Warped tour.

We chatted to singer Craig Sulken to find out more about the new release and their plans for 2015.

Can you tell us more about the band’s formation?

This band came together officially in 2012. After I graduated high school in 2011, I moved to south Florida for college and a running scholarship and kind of figured that was it for me. As far as what I was going to do with my future, I was going to finish school and get a “real” job just like you’re told to do at that age. During my first semester of school, I wrote a lot of music and realised that maybe my songs did have a lot of potential and that maybe I wasn’t meant to go down the same path as everyone else. Since then, I moved back home to start this band and have never looked back.

If someone hasn’t stumbled across your music before, how would you describe the BoyMeetsWorld sound?

I would describe our sound as fun and energetic, and musically strong. I say musically strong because I spend a lot of time perfecting the instrumentals of most songs before doing much work with vocals at all. There’s a lot of content to listen to in all of our songs whether it be clever drum fills, lead guitar, lyrics, and melody, etc versus a lot of bands that I think focus just on having a chord progression and lyrics to go over it.

How did you go about the writing process for ‘Become Someone’?

Pretty much all of this album, minus a couple of tracks, are songs that have been in the works for me for around the past two years. I would write a little bit, let a few weeks go by, revisit if I got stuck in my writing process, and just piece every song little by little until they became what they are. Of course some songs I wrote way faster and came more natural, but I think it’s always nice to be able to have a lot of time pass before hearing old ideas with fresh ears.

Are there any tracks in particular from the album we should check out first?

Honestly, I’m so proud about how every song came out and I really think it’s going to be an album where people’s “favourite song” from it are going to be all over the place, just because each song has something unique to offer that’s going to cater to any taste of a listener. I really like track two, ‘So In What?’, but I’d hope everyone will check out the whole thing.

Do you have any plans to head to the UK?

That’s definitely on our bucket list, and we would absolutely love to travel out of the U.S to play music. As of right now, I wouldn’t say it’s a “plan”, but who knows, we might be over there sooner than even we thought.

Are there any venues in the UK you’d love to headline?

Haha! I wish I knew more about the UK scene or venues but I don’t.

What do you guys have planned for 2015?

Well, we have our album release show June 12th here in Cincinnati at a pretty iconic venue called Bogart’s, and are leaving the following day to head out to California to be apart of The Vans Warped Tour all summer long. We are sooo stoked to be hitting the road again, and hopefully there will be much more touring from us after the summer.

Anything else you wish to add?

I’d just like to thank anybody who may have been reading this, and I hope you check us out and pick up our new album on iTunes on June 16th.
