Introducing | Eleusia

Following the release of their debut single, we caught up with Eleusia.

Spending the Easter weekend recording their forthcoming EP ‘Waves in the Clouds’ at Ranscombe Studios in Kent, the psychedelic funk rock four-piece are ready to unleash their sound.

With their single ‘Deep Blue Sea‘ out now, we chatted with guitarist Jason Tomlins to find out more about Eleusia’s music and their future plans.

Can you tell us more about the formation of Eleusia?

Back in summer 2013, Adam, Glenn and myself (Jason) recorded a demo album titled ‘Our Future Is A Hard Drive’. This was recorded from my bedroom in a week, it had 7 tracks and was a rough idea and direction for Eleusia. It was very experimental in places, still holding together our blues and funk roots. Fast forward to 2014, we were on the hunt for a bassist and I knew my close mate Dhuran could play so we brought him along for a jam and we all clicked, it was a beautiful beginning for Eleusia. We booked our first show at Chatham’s Poco Loco in August as a psychedelic rock covers band, playing tunes from Hendrix, Chillies, Gary Clark Jr, Floyd and a few originals from the demo album. To our surprise, everyone loved it, and from then on, we set out on our quest to take over the world.

You take influence from 60’s/70’s music, what is it about this era that inspires you?

We love the excitement and passion for the music back in that era, how raw and authentic it all sounded, plus all the legends began in those decades from Hendrix, Floyd, James Brown, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin. It was an inspirational time for music.

How would you describe your sound for those who haven’t stumbled across the band?

If Jimi Hendrix met Pink Floyd and had a baby. Meanwhile, Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Led Zeppelin met and had their baby – and by some miracle, those two babies met and got it on. This is what they birthed.

You’re preparing for the release of your new EP ‘Waves in the Clouds’, what can we expect from the EP?

You guys are going to love it. If you adore heavy riffs, soaring solos, and want to get down and dance to some bluesy grooves you’ll be in love. We also have a few cheeky surprises thrown in too.

With regular local gigs under your belt, do you have any plans for gigs across the UK?

We want to hit up Brighton, Hastings and Canterbury again, as those cities are awesome. Though we are thinking of branching out more across the south coast to Bournemouth potentially and other various cities, we’re up for playing anywhere where we can share our love for music.

If you could support any band on their UK tour, who would this be and why?

Chilli Peppers of course. Their live jams are really something special, inspired us to do the same.

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?

I’m afraid if I told you that, we would have to kill you.

Anything else you wish to add?

Do you know where to catch a Pikachu?
