Introducing | Acrylic

Glasgow. The city known for its wealthy music scene.

From iconic venues to basement bars offering a taster of talent from one street to the next, the city has played host to band’s first gigs through to the peak of their career.

Next up hoping to crack out of the west is Acrylic, an indie rock 5-piece who met while at Glasgow University.

We caught up with the band to allow them to introduce themselves to you.

Can you tell us more about how the band formed?

The band in its current form came together at the University of Glasgow where we all study. We met in Fresher’s week and shared a similar music taste. We decided to get together and play and the rest is history!

Where did the inspiration for your name come from?

As your typical group of Glasgow lads, we are well into our plastic and nail design. That was a lie. We liked the simplicity of the name and the way it looks written down. It’s not a name that we’ll come to regret.

Which track would you recommend to those who may have not discovered the band yet?

Our latest single ‘It’s Been A While‘ is the track that we feel is closest to the overall sound that you’re likely to hear from us in the future. It also holds a filthy instrumental drop.

What can we expect from a live set from Acrylic?

With instrumentals and some improvisation, our live shows are a lot more captivating than just a band playing through all their songs exactly as you’d hear them in recordings. We’re also blasting some mean folk harmonies.

If you could tour with one band, who would it be and why?

We’d love to tour with Catfish and the Bottlemen. Our music isn’t overly similar to theirs so it would make for a diverse and gripping tour. We’ve also been massively inspired by their recent shoot to fame and the success of their debut album, especially after having a chat to their frontman outside one of their recent Edinburgh gigs. They always seem to be madly excited about everything as well which would make touring with them a lot of fun.

Which venue would be your dream to headline?

It would be a dream to perform at the Royal Albert Hall, having seen the mind-blowing set that Foals played there. As with most other bands, we’d also love to headline T in the Park as it’s the festival we’ve all grown up with. We wouldn’t complain about being asked to headline Glastonbury as well though…

Are there any of your forthcoming dates you’re looking forward to the most?

We’re really looking forward to playing Tenement TV’s ‘Tenement Trail‘ on 4th October in Glasgow. There are some amazing bands on the bill for that one and it’s our first multi-venue/festival type of show.

What can we expect from the band for the rest of the year?

We have had some great support over our first year of writing, recording and performing and we are starting to build up a great following in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Perth, we’d love to get some more headline dates booked across all three cities. We also have some new songs we’re extremely excited about so once we get some spare studio time we’ll be preparing for some new releases in the not too distant future!
