With endless songwriters picking up a guitar and taking to the stage, how do you select those destined for stardom?

The trend of singers entrusted with their acoustic guitar is no strange concept, in fact it would be unusual to spot a singer without a guitar strapped to their side.

Now the charts are scattered with talented songwriters, including Ben Howard, George Ezra and Benjamin Francis Leftwich, just to name a few.

But there’s a new name that looks certain to join the list – meet Mat Hunsley.

The 20-year-old singer from Newcastle, alike many artists, recorded his demos from his student bedroom on a second-hand recorder and released his debut single ‘Au Contraire’ in May.

Most recently, he has signed a management deal with Trellis Music ahead of his next release.

‘Au Contraire’ was the first taster of his music showcasing his distinctive raw vocals, soothing guitar playing and enchanting melodies leaving you hanging on every lyric sung.

And if the debut release is anything to go by, we suggest you keep up-to-date with Mat’s music to enjoy his sound before everyone else catches on.
