Introducing | Never Hill

We caught up with Never Hill following the release of the deluxe edition of their ‘Epilogue’ EP.

The alt pop rockers from Coventry have already gained the attention of Kerrang!, Team Rock Radio and BBC Introducing, following live slots with Marmozets, Neck Deep and Canterbury.

Last month, the Coventry five-piece released a deluxe edition of their debut EP ‘Epilogue’ featuring two previously unreleased stripped back versions of ‘Fire’ and ‘Starting Line’.

With their enhanced EP release out now, we chatted with bassist Jake Mendham to find out more about their music, live sets and plans for 2016.

For those who might not have heard Never Hill, how would you describe your music?

We would describe our current music as rock/pop to new listeners, music that you would hear on the mainstream radio stations, but we would also say we are very open in all genres of music. Why stick to one when there are so many to play with? Our older music also features heavier elements.

Which track from your recent EP ‘Epilogue’ would you recommend readers listen to first to introduce themselves to your music?

I think we would all say ‘Fire’, our current single. It’s very easy listening and catchy! It’s got a lot to say so listen to the lyrics and be ready to feel, but if you’re looking for a rockier track, hit play on ‘Afraid of the Dark.’

How would you describe a live set from Never Hill?

We work really hard on our set, not just the tracks but our movement on stage as it is a performance after all. We try to be very energetic on stage, we feel that if the band are enjoying the set, the people watching it will too. We’d love to involve more lights and surprises during the set!

If you could pick one UK band to tour with next year, who would it be and why?

That would have to be (for me) The 1975. We get told that we sound like them, but with a bit more rock behind us. We don’t mind this as we do really love them! They also have a dedicated fan base and I think they’d come our way too if they listened to us.

What do you guys have planned for the rest of 2015?

We are playing a few more shows coming up towards the end of the year, but we’re working hard behind the scenes for plans to step up to the next level.

What are your aims for 2016?

In 2016 we aim to have our final release from ‘Epilogue’ on more radio stations and the music video to hit people’s TV screens. We’ll then release our next EP which we start work on very soon. To play major festivals is on our list of ‘things we’d like to do’, alongside more tours, some of our own and some supporting bigger bands.

Anything else you wish to add?

Please help the band to grow. Simple things like telling a friend about us, buying our music, and coming to shows! If you see something online and think “Never Hill could do that”, link us. Anything to help us would be amazing – thank you to all who have joined us so far!
