Introducing | Shawn Mendes

shawn mendesShawn Mendes is quickly becoming one of today’s most buzzed-about young artists.

The singer-songwriter’s debut single ‘Life of The Party’ catapulted to No.1 on iTunes within an hour of its release, reaching 150,000 sales in the first week.

Not only that, Shawn has also toured Canada alongside Austin Mahone and The Vamps. All of this and he’s not even 16!

The success of ‘Life of The Party‘ has made the 15 year old viral sensation the youngest artist to ever break the Billboard Hot 100’s Top 25 with their first chart entry. The song is all about “being happy with who you are” says Shawn.

So how did he do it?

Years and years of viewing song covers by others on YouTube inspired him to figure out how to do it on his own, but with so many covers on YouTube it was becoming very difficult to get noticed.

So Shawn put a twist on the traditional YouTube cover and in 2013 started using Vine to record himself singing.

In late 2013, over 2000 fans showed up to Shawn’s first public appearance in Toronto’s Dundas Square and by January 2014, Shawn’s acoustic renditions of popular songs, which had been noticed by many including Ed Sheeran, were discovered by artist manager Andrew Gertler, who brought him to the attention of his now-label Island Records.

Today with over 2.6 million Vine followers, 14 million YouTube views and the recent release of his debut EP, Shawn Mendes is heading into summer, writing and recording his own music.

And he’s just getting started.
