Introducing | Yishay

Meet Yishay. The South Central Los Angeles artist breaking barriers to create a new blend of music.

From cars to studios, Yishay recorded his latest EP ‘Trinity Tapes II’ on-the-go, working to craft his unique blend of ‘trap rock’.

Following the release of ‘Trinity Tapes II’ last month, we caught up with Yishay to find out more.

What was it that inspired you to begin creating your own music?

I remember the moment that I realised that every song I had ever heard exists because someone sat down and made it. I was obsessed from then on.

Were there any artists in particular which inspired this move?

Different genres and artists have pushed different aspects of creation. Mewithoutyou and Lana are huge lyrical inspirations with Kanye and hip hop for production, and classical music for composition. Bringing all of these elements together is what makes for great music in 2016 and onward.

In terms of your music, how would you describe your sound?

The best way I have figured out is to say that it’s some sort of mix of Radiohead and Yeezus. Alt-electronic production mixed with organic live instruments and white guy vocals.

Your new EP was released on August 8th, how did you go about the recording process for the release?

With modern technology, it was created in basements, in cars, on planes and in proper studios. It was a long regurgitation of numerous writing and production sections. Shout out to my team Nate Washburn and Wolftalk.

What can those who haven’t discovered your music expect from the EP?

Simultaneous grit and beauty. That’s always been the goal.

Do you have any live shows in the pipeline?

I have been working very hard out in LA on rehearsing and auditioning musicians. Soon, children, very soon. It’s going to hit hard.

Would you ever tour the UK?

God, yes, any help on that?

What are your plans for the rest of 2016?

Writing never ceases. Juice man never sleeps. Trinity Tapes III is about 70% finished. I am working tirelessly on the live show. I began as a visual artist before I ever picked up an instrument. There are full corresponding live visuals that sync with the songs and concepts that will really make the show out to be something unique and memorable.

Anything else you wish to add?

The best is yet to come. Get on board now so you can have cool guy cred. “I knew that guy when he was tucked away in South Central getting his shit tagged up and hanging out with the crackheads.”
