Down The Machine

Emerging alternative rock band Down The Machine hail from Leeds and cite inspirations such as Nine Inch Nails and Pearl Jam.

The band headlined the first ever Leeds Metal Fringe Festival and made their debut appearance at Leeds Festival last year.

We caught up with the band to allow them to introduce themselves to you…

You cite your inspirations as bands a like Nine Inch Nails, Pearl Jam etc, which of your influences would you say are the strongest on your latest material and why?

It is always good to hear a bands influences show through in their own material without it sounding like imitation. We hope our new stuff does just that! From the raw, live energy of Pearl Jam, to the precise, brutal emotion of Nine Inch Nails.

For those who haven’t yet come across the band’s music before, how would you describe your sound?

Honest, tight, melodic hard rock.

Do you feel there is a big difference between your studio sound and live sound?

We tend to be meticulous with our recordings and try to get the best sound we can. In a live situation there is more room to manoeuvre. As long as our live performances have passion, then the odd mistake here and there can be forgiven.

In August 2010 you self-produced your album, why did you decide to do this?

We had no choice basically. At the time we were unsigned and had no real budget. Luckily we had the software and know-how to do it ourselves. We are very proud of how it turned out.

How much would you say your music has progressed in the past year?

Our first album had a lot of synth based elements and our latest material is more traditional hard rock in nature.

You played at Leeds Metal Fringe Festival recently, how was this experience for you?

The experience was awesome – we loved every second of performing there, and would jump at the chance to do it all over again. Maybe next year?

This year you made your debut appearance at Leeds Festival, in terms of next years festival circuit which festivals do you aim to play?

Well so far we have confirmed that we are playing The Arctic Festival in London in January, and we’re in talks about a few other festivals in July and August. One thing we are aiming to do is tour the United Arab Emirates in June, and explore other opportunities abroad.

What would you say is your biggest achievement as a band to date?

Our biggest achievement to date? I would say the last year has been absolutely immense, so it would be so hard to pin point one achievement. We’ve played a few festivals, a fair few shows around the local area, launched a single with an EP, recorded another single and released that with a video, we are currently busy working hard on some new material and also are planning to go much further a field in the coming months with shows and performances!

What can we expect from Down The Machine in 2012?

More cowbell. \m/\m/
