Lost?

You may not have heard of Lost? but with the bands young, energetic attitude it seems they shall make sure you have in the future!

After hearing the overwhelming support for the band via Twitter, I was intrigued to find out more about the young Norwich band.

Drawing influences from All Time Low and Blink 182 the four piece are a young, exciting edition to the UK unsigned music scene and if their large expanding fan base have any say in the matter, the band will indeed step things up to the next level and get noticed!

The band became friends with American rockers Army Of Freshmen in 2008 and after writing all summer they were given the opportunity to head back to California to record with the band, an opportunity the band could not turn down.

It seems Army Of Freshmen are not the only American band hooked on Lost?’s sound, Bowling For Soup picked the band to appear in the short list to support them on their acoustic UK tour. This just shows the band are already being spotted by established American favourites.

Lost? are hoping to catch the attention of another American band, pop-punk favourites All Time Low, whilst they are touring the UK next March and it seems the bands dedicated fan base are making sure All Time Low stop and take notice of the Norwich guys.

Love Music; Love Life were invited to learn more about the band by talking to Singer/Guitarist Pete Bilton.

Firstly, how did the band decide on the name ‘Lost?’ ?
Well we couldn’t decide on a band name for quite a while, and the name Lost started as just a bad joke. Me and Rob (bass/vocals) thought it’d be funny when we meet people to say ‘Hi, we’re lost.’ just to see what they said and then people started to get to know us and the name just stuck!
I don’t even remember where the question mark came from to make the name LOST?
But at some point it was added and now I’m glad that it stuck because I love the band name! It’s always a bit of an ice breaker when we get to shows, I like it when someone throws the ‘so you didn’t get LOST on the way?’ line.

What made you decide to name your EP ‘Pics, Or It Didn’t Happen’?
That was actually a line that Rob and I use a lot. Being in a band sometimes you get to see and be a part of some strange and wonderful things. So whenever we’d tell each other any of those things we’d always say ‘pics, or it didn’t happen’ to each other. We were sitting in our rehearsal space talking about the name of the record while we were writing it, and Rob just said it and I loved it. It’s such a fitting name with the CD and it made it a little more personal. After we chose that name, I wrote the song ‘Playboy’ and the CD title kind of influenced the lyrics to follow the same theme, in particular the line ‘I’ve seen things that I’ll never forget’.

Which bands do you draw your influence from?
One band that we frequently reference and perhaps the most noticeable comparison to our music is Blink 182. We all grew up listening to Blink records and it’s the main common ground that we share. There’s other pop punk bands too like Fall Out Boy, All Time Low and such, but we all have a pretty vast range of tastes. We all listen to a lot of rap and hip hop, I listen to a lot of Elvis, and then at the same time there’s a lot of heavy music that influences us and we all listen to RnB and modern pop music. I think that’s great though, it keeps things fresh when you’re writing a rock song and it also has elements of a dance song, but still has that pop punk vibe at the heart of it.

Who would be your ideal band to go on tour with?
There’s always that music fan in you that would like to tour with idols. So touring with Blink 182 would obviously blow my mind! But then in terms of tours that we’d fit on and really have a great time hanging out with the other bands, All Time Low would be great! We’re fairly similar bands and they’re all good guys that we could get along with. Then again, I’d also love to tour with a pop artist, because they always have those huge production shows and I imagine that being a part of such a huge tour would be a great experience.

In today’s music scene, which band’s fans do you believe you would appeal to most?
We seem to have a great relationship with All Time Low fans. I think they see some of ATL in us, which is a big honour. They’re also a really tight fanbase on the whole, a lot of them are in contact with each other and have become friends through liking the band. So when one of them hears and likes us, they tell all of the other fans that they know to check us out, and we’ve actually met a lot of new people that way, which we appreciate a lot!

What can we expect to see out of a live performance with Lost?
I like to think that our live shows are where we get to showcase our music on a new level. Listening to a CD or streaming our music on laptop speakers never fully captures the size of the songs. The whole CD is intended to be listened to loud! There’s certain bands that you go to see where you know even before stepping into the venue, that you’re going to have a great time; We aim to be one of those bands. There’s always a lot of energy at our shows. There’s not a moment in our set that we’re standing still, probably mainly because we’re so excited to be doing what we do! I feel like it’s 4 guys having the time of their lives, partying in a room with their friends and fans. If we can put a smile on even one persons face at a show, then I’d consider it a success!

What does the future hold for Lost?
More of the same! So far this year we’ve been playing shows and touring a lot to promote ourselves and get our music heard by as many people as possible.
We’re releasing our first single ‘DAMN! Baby’ next month with a video. We’ll continue playing shows around the UK through winter, then we’ll hopefully get out to Europe for some shows as soon as possible, and next summer we’re going on tour in the USA. Basically we’ll be doing everything we can to progress and get to where we want to be. Chasing the dream one show at a time!
