Official Hot Mess certainly have made an impact on MTV. Their music video for ‘Money Makes The Girl$ Go Round’ has been MTVU’s most popular video, MTV Music’s Most Watched Video Of The Week and has been number 1 on the most watched video’s of the month.
Not only this, the band have been featured on TV shows such as The Hills, My Super Sweet 16 and Keeping Up With The Kardashians.
The band have played shows with the likes of We The Kings, Ray J, Mitchel Musso, co-headlined with Lil’ Kim and many more!
Not only this, Official Hot Mess are currently in production on an upcoming docu-reality TV show.
We managed to catch up with the girls in the band Kristy and Lindsey Landers to find out more!
For those who haven’t heard of the band, how would you introduce yourself using only 5 words?
We are Official Hot Mess! 🙂
Where did the band get their name from?
We call ourselves Official Hot Mess because it seems mischief and trouble always have a way of finding us! Like the time we thought we were on a flight to L.A. and ended up in Puerto Rico! or the time my spike heel got caught on Lindsey’s pants and I accidentally ‘pantsed’ her onstage (luckily she was wearing cute undies, haha!) Official Hot Mess is a spot-on description of the chaos and craziness that ensues when we, and the four wild and crazy guys in our band, hit the road.
Who do you site as your influences?
We’re influenced by artists who have been pioneers for women in the music industry; like Blondie, Heart, Cyndi Lauper, the Bangles, Pat Benatar and the Go-Go’s. We’re also influenced by rock, alternative, hip-hop, etc. and bring aspects of each genre into our personal style.
Which act at the moment would you say you sound most alike to?
Instead of specifically emulating any other artist, our goal is to create our own path for other artists in years to come to follow, but I guess if No Doubt, The Ting Tings and Ke$ha had a threesome – the resulting child would sound something like Official Hot Mess!!
How does it feel to have so many video achievements for ‘Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round’?
We were so excited when we found out that our music video for “Money Makes the Girl$ Go Round” hit number 1 on MTV Music’s Top 100 (and has held the spot for over 8 weeks!). We’re thankful for all of the love and support we’ve received from our amazing fans. This is just the beginning!
Out of all the TV shows your songs have featured in, which do you feel is the ‘ultimate’ show?
Our music has been featured on some awesome TV shows. ‘Keeping Up With the Kardashians’ and ‘The Jersey Shore’ are two of our faves! Knowing that the music we’ve written can evoke emotions and enhance a scene in a TV show is a really rewarding feeling! The shows have such strong, dedicated audiences and fans so it’s great to know that they’re connecting with our music, plus, it was pretty epic to see Snooki drunkenly fist-pumping to our song, lol!
<strongYou're currently in production for a doc-reality show, can you tell us more about this?
The reality show will take you behind the scenes of “Official Hot Mess” and the outrageous shenanigans and situations we get into! It will also give you an inside look at our personal lives at home with our family. You’ll get to see everything from behind the scenes of our music video shoots, to bringing a guy home to meet my protective dad for the first time, to flying on our backyard trapeze with Travis Clark(We The Kings)!
So far, who has been your favourite band to tour with?
We’ve had some great opportunities to share the stage with some amazing artists. Flo Rida, The Bangles and Kevin Rudolf are definitely some of our favorites.
And finally, who would be your ultimate band to tour with if there where no limits?
Two of our favorite groups of all time are Blink 182 and The Black Eyed Peas, it would be amazing to tour with them!
