One More Year

One More Year are a new pop-punk/rock band from Northampton who are trying to appeal to fans of the likes of The Wonder Years and New Found Glory.

Originally forming in 2008 under the name ‘The Hometown Anthem’ the band played many shows supporting bands such as Attack Attack!, Not Advised and Tell It To The Marines.

After going on hiatus for a year, the band returned to the scene in November 2010 and are looking forward to the year ahead.

We caught up with the band to find out what 2011 holds for them!

Where did the band get their name from?
The name came from our drummer. He was having a conversation with a friend about something (that I can’t remember) and he just said ‘one more year’. When we decided to start up again, he just came to us saying ”The band name is One More Year!’, and we all pretty much loved it. It also relates to the fact that we split for a year.

There are a lot of young pop-punk bands around, what would you say differentiates yourselves from bands alike?
We try to change our sound for all our songs, so nothing sounds the same. We’ve got a couple of ‘pop’ songs, a couple of faster songs & then we also have a song which is more alternative. We also don’t like using the same structures and keep the palm muting to the low.

Which bands are your strongest influences drawn from?
Our biggest influences probably come from bands such as; The Wonder Years, Transit, New Found Glory, The Swellers & Polar Bear Club.

Why did you decide to change the band name?
Back in 2008 we formed as a band called 'The Hometown Anthem', which then split in 2009. After a year of doing other things, we decided to get back together but change everything and this included our name.

How do you go about writing your songs?
We all come up with ideas when we just jam on our own at home. We then bring these to practice and play them to everyone. If we have written full songs, then the others pick out the bits they like and we keep and use them, then write other stuff as a full band to make our songs.

What has been your favourite gig that you have played to date?
As One More Year, we have only played one show, which was at The Roadmender, Northampton. A load of our close friends came out to see us, so it was fun playing to them. As The Hometown Anthem though, I think our best show was probably when we supported Saving Aimee in Milton Keynes on the last date of our UK tour. We just gave it our all like it was the last show we would play, so much fun!

Who would be your ideal band to tour with?
There are so many bands that I think we would all love to tour with, there are definitely too many to choose from. Bands such as Taking Back Sunday, Jimmy Eat World to You Me At Six, The Wonder Years & New Found Glory and then, there is always the smaller bands such as; Deaf Havana, Francesqa, Flood Of Red & The Dangerous Summer.

So what are your plans for 2011?
Hopefully 2011 will be a busy year for us! We are hoping to do a few tours with some of our friends in other bands, a proper E.P, a music video and just generally build a fan base around the UK.
