Sea of Giants

Bridlington deathcore 5-piece Sea of Giants only formed early last year and have already supported bands such as Sirena, Shadows Chasing Ghosts and The Ocean Between Us.

The band are currently writing their first 8-track mini album and we caught up with the guys to find out more!

How would you distinguish yourselves from other deathcore/metalcore bands?

Tom (Drums): We’re Good.

Tom (Guitar/ Vocals): … I think that as a band, we have a pretty wide range in music taste and have very few restrictions on what we want in our songs. We don’t just make sure all our songs are really heavy and fast, we like to include some quick hardcore shit and the way too crazy deathcore breakdowns. Hopefully our next E.P will show that a bit more!

For those who have yet to discover your first EP, which track would you say best ‘showcases’ the band?

Alex (Vocals): For me the best track that stands out is “Bloodshot Eyes“. Its just got an aggressive no holds bared feel to it. We’ve had a lot of really positive feedback for all songs but this track seems to stand out the most to people.

Which band (if any) would you most alike yourselves to?

Tom (Guitar/ Vocals): With every song comes a different resemblance to a different band. I think it’s really hard to make music that is completely different to other bands. We have really slow and chuggy breakdowns which bands like Chelsea Grin and Annotations of an Autopsy use alongside side hardcore riffs sounding like Your Demise.

What has been your favourite gig to-date?

Sam (Guitar): This has got to be our charity gig in Driffield last year. It wasn’t our best performance, but it was easily the best crowd to date. People were moshing and having a good time. That’s what we like to see. We also got to share the stage with some ace upcoming bands and raise money for charity.

You’ve done extremely well considering only forming in Spring last year and playing your first gig in August, do you have any advice for bands who are trying to hit the gig scene this year?

Sam (Guitar): Write some sick ass tunes and get them recorded. Best thing to do to kick start a band is record. Promoters will take you more seriously and the gigs will come rolling in. We highly recommend Lee Rule. We recorded our EP with him and are planning to record our second release with him. He knows what he’s doing and is an all round sick guy.

You’ve recently signed to American TW Productions, what are your plans for tackling the world?

Sam (Guitar): I guess getting more international fans and introducing them to our music. And if we get a good response, hopefully book some tours and see where we go from there.

Which bands would you love to tour with if there were no limits?

Sam (Guitar): Sirena. We played with these guys last year when they were over from the US and got talking to them. They were genuinely nice lads and played one hell of a show.

Jonny (Bass): Chelsea Grin. They like to drink and smoke and know how to play a good show. They’re one of my influences and it would be amazing to tour with them.

Tom (Drums): Sirena too. They blew my mind and were genuinely sick guys. Can’t wait to crab with them again soon.

Alex (Vocals): No limits? For The Fallen Dreams. That would be something! On a more serious note, it would have to be Sirena or the lads in The Colour Line.

Tom (Guitar/ Vocals): Love to go out on the road with Dr. Acula! They seem like crazy bastards who know how to have a good time.

Are there any places you’re extremely keen to visit on tour?

Tom (Drums): For me, USA. The crowds there would blow my mind with sweat and violence.

Sam (Guitar): I agree with America too, we’ve already made friends with some pretty cool bands over there and it would be ace to meet them again and tour with them!

Jonny (Bass): Has to be America. Simply because it’s crazy and warm.

Alex (Vocals): USA. That would be insane. In the UK it would have to be Scotland.

Tom (Guitar/ Vocals): I’d love tour all of the UK!

What can we expect from the band in 2012?

Alex (Vocals): This year we’re really focusing on pushing ourselves as far as we can and getting SOG out there. We’re currently writing our first 8 track mini album, we can’t really give much away but it’s coming! We have a show on the 27th of march in our hometown with Odessa and Giants, both of which we as a band fucking love. So we’re well hyped for that. I guess this year apart from writing we’ll be doing our best to play as many shows around the UK as we can.
