This Is Freedom

With tracks already featuring in new hit E4 series Fresh Meat, successful support slots with bands such as Futures and Lower Than Atlantis and a fantastic EP to top it all off – we were eager to find out more.

Working with producer Frankie Torpey, the band’s debut EP Welcome Home has been a work in progress since early 2010.

Set to embark on a headline UK tour in 2012, we caught up with the band to allow them introduce themselves to you.

Your EP has been work in progress since 2010, why did you decide to release it a year after starting?

We wanted to spend as much time as possible doing the finishing touches to the tracks and make them sound as good as possible. We were sending them back and forth with our producer and we ended up getting a little bit too worried about it being perfect and it came out 6 months later than it should have!

Who would you cite as your main influences?

We all have lots of different personal influences, but two bands that have been very influential to us are Kings of Leon and Jimmy Eat World. Bands like Jimmy Eat World were very influential when we were growing up and more recently, we have taken influence from what Kings of Leon are doing.

You can hear the a likeness in your music to bands such as You Me At Six and Francesqa, do you think you could appeal to their fan base?

Yes! Although we wouldn’t use these bands to describe our sound, we can still see a likeness and totally think that fans of these bands would like us!

Who has been your favourite band you’ve shared the stage with to-date?

I think we can all safely say Futures. They are great guys, we love their music and was a pleasure sharing the stage with them. We have the pleasure of doing it again in a few weeks, so we are looking forward to that.

Who would be your dream band to tour with?

Would have to say Paramore, their reputation for live shows and tours is unreal. They know how to put on a show and give their fans exactly what they want, so touring with them sounds like a dream!

What can we expect from This Is Freedom live?

We are working on new aspects of our live set every week at the moment and are very excited to start playing this new version! A lot of excitement, energy, fun, and hopefully a lot of singing along!

What can fans expect from the band in 2012?

We have lots of things planned for 2012, we will be going on our first tour in February which we will be releasing more details about very soon. We will also be bringing out a new single and music video, so keep an eye out!
