Live Review | As It Is | King Tut’s

Nobody could accuse pop-punkers As It Is of slacking off in their bid to make it in the industry.

In the few short years since their formation, the Brighton-based five-piece have put out four EPs, signed with Fearless Records, released one full-length album and taken their live show up and down the UK numerous times.

The April 2015 release of their debut album, ‘Never Happy, Ever After’, has really kicked things up a notch for the band and their current tour with This Wild Life, Seaway and Boston Manor has seen the crowds grow once more.

Glasgow’s famous King Tut’s Wah Wah Hut is heaving with fans on a rainy Glasgow night when As It Is take to its tiny stage. The other three bands have done a great job setting the atmosphere, but As It Is definitely step up to the plate, bringing a contagious energy that has the room bouncing along with them from the first few chords of opener ‘Speak Soft‘.

‘Cheap Shots and Setbacks’ sounds even better in a live setting, while semi-acoustic number ‘My Oceans Were Lakes‘ builds and builds to a rousing singalong finish.

Playing mainly tracks from the album, the band make sure a couple of old favourites, ‘Bitter Broken Me‘ and ‘Horoscopes‘, are included to satisfy those who’ve been following the band since their early days.

The night is brought to a rewarding close with ‘Dial Tones‘, the band’s biggest track to date and one that wouldn’t sound out of place on an All Time Low record.

Next stop for the rising Brighton lads? Only one of the biggest gigs for an up-and-coming pop punk band – Warped Tour.
