Live Review | Communion New Faces tour | Electric Circus

CommunionThe intimate setting of Electric Circus provided the perfect chance to catch the new kids on the block at Communion.

Touring the UK, the label brought four fresh-faced talents to Edinburgh for one night only showcasing a range of their new material from Farewell J.R, Annie Eve, Luke Sital-Singh and Eliza and the Bear.

The night gave keen Edinburgh music fans the chance to listen to top acts before the rest of the world latch onto their sound.

Electric Circus’ intimate vibe gave fans the chance to literally get up close with the acts and as Luke Sital-Singh took to the stage, it was the first time I’ve been to a gig where the crowd is so silent you could hear the sound of the main door swinging open.

The silent atmosphere may have felt awkward at a normal gig with no chants, cheers or applause as the band set up, but this worked to Luke’s favour as he managed to captivate the candle-lit venue with each audience member hooked on his strong vocals.

With the addition of his band, he proved his voice can work well both with a strong backing or solo and he managed to make banter with the crowd throughout the set with ease.

Highlights of his set included Nothing Stays the Same and Luna.

Eliza and the Bear were one of the more recognisable names on the bill for us and they proved why there has been a buzz online around the band following their support slot with Paramore.

With their upbeat sound, they managed to play as if there was a much larger crowd giving their all to their set as they made the crowd move down the front of the venue.

Squeezing their five-piece band onto the small stage, despite a small venue and crowd, the band easily showcased their potential for much bigger things in the future managing to create the feeling of a much larger gig with their stage presence.

Highlights of their set included Friends and It Gets Cold.

The night was the perfect chance for Edinburgh locals to grab a listen to up and coming talent on the music scene and more importantly, the chance to tell their friends they seen the acts before they are regulars on the festival and touring circuit.
