Live Review | Dance Gavin Dance | Glasgow Garage

Dance Gavin Dance returned to Scotland to celebrate their tenth anniversary.

Headlining the Garage’s more intimate G2 room, the night was a flashback to the past for fans right from the opening support with former DGD vocalists Kurt Travis and Johnny Craig.

Taking to the stage discreetly, as the crowd chattered away during the set up, Johnny Craig and Kurt Travis’ set was the perfect way to ease into the night with some acoustic treats. Covering a variety of tracks from The Weeknd to Justin Timberlake, Johnny’s velvet vocals captivated the room as he easily charmed the crowd with his outstanding voice.

Main support Good Tiger didn’t quite manage to charm the crowd as much as Mr Craig, however, they certainly managed to warm things up in the intimate venue with a receptive crowd throughout their set.

Turning up the temperature as they celebrated 10 years, it was clear Scotland’s Dance Gavin Dance fans had been awaiting the moment they’d see their favourites take to the stage once again. The band seemed just as keen as the crowd launching straight into the night with newer track ‘Chucky Vs. The Giant Tortoise’ with Tilian Pearson leading the way.

With high energy from the get-go, the night blended a range of hits from throughout the band’s career, stemming back to 2007 with tracks from ‘Downtown Battle Mountain’ through to 2016’s album ‘Mothership’.

With seven albums under their belt, the night was a real treat for fans. Not only did old songs resurface, but Kurt Travis and Johnny Craig also returned to lead vocals, taking you on a journey through the band’s career to-date.

Set highlights on the night included ‘Betrayed By The Game’, ‘And I Told Them I Invented Times Roman’ and ‘We Own The Night’.

It may have been a decade since the band formed and there may have been various line-up changes, but one thing remains true – Dance Gavin Dance know how to put on a show.
