Picture This - Love Music; Love Life

Live Review | Picture This | O2 Shepherd’s Bush Empire

It’s certainly no easy task to support one of the biggest pop stars in the world, but Picture This seem to take it all in their stride.

Why? Because this Irish pop rock duo are already pretty popular themselves.

Since deciding to make music together in October 2015, Jimmy Rainsford and Ryan Hennessy’s music videos have been viewed millions of times on YouTube and they’ve sold out venues across Ireland to adoring fans. Perhaps, that supporting Niall Horan on his Flicker Sessions tour doesn’t seem like such a surprise after all. Niall himself commented “they are they biggest band in Ireland right now, it’s ironic that they’re supporting me”, so it seems as though it’s about time the rest of the UK caught up.

The intimate venue of Shepherd’s Bush was the perfect place for such an introduction, allowing the duo and their backing band to show off their talents without distraction. The band’s opening song set the atmosphere for the night as they sang “we could get drunk tonight” to an upbeat catchy pop melody. After just one song, it already felt like the audience were on their side.  Ryan’s vocals, smooth but with a rocky edge, echoed around the room throughout the set, creating a captivating mix of melodies that make you want to dance and a voice that makes you want to listen to every word. The instantly likeable tunes kept on coming and their confidence on stage really shone through. Brilliant pop songs mixed with plenty of cheeky jokes in between, is there a better combination?

Although the set was mostly filled with positive sentiments, ‘Smells Like You’ revealed the duo’s softer side, however, they were soon back singing more uptempo tunes. The last few songs had everyone jumping around and clapping, creating an excitable ending to a short but sweet set. They finished with their very first single ‘Take My Hand’, which most of the audience loudly sang a long to, providing a glimpse into just how huge these boys could become in the very near future. The set may have ended quicker than we’d have liked, but the addictive melodies were very much still in our heads for a long while after.

People bought tickets to this show to see Niall Horan but they will certainly remember Picture This for a long time to come too, and for all the right reasons. The duo will be back headlining their own show at Shepherd’s Bush Empire on 1st November, so make sure you grab tickets to see one of the most promising up and coming bands around!
