Live Review | SWMRS | Electric Circus

Bay Area punk rockers SWMRS made their Edinburgh debut at the Electric Circus.

Fresh from their appearances at Reading and Leeds Festivals, the young four-piece headlined Edinburgh’s Electric Circus to celebrate the release of their debut album ‘Drive North’.

Opening the gig were fellow punk rockers Brawlers, who were feeling slightly delicate after partying in Glasgow the night before. Starting their set with chats of Bucky bombs and hangovers, the band had whittled down to a trio for the Edinburgh show. Despite their fragile state, the band gave the crowd a warm introduction to their punchy punk-fuelled sound.

Next up London’s DEAD! woke up the crowd with their energetic set. Making the stage into their own, complete with miniature vintage lamps and flowers scattered on amps,  set highlights included  ‘Alaska’, ‘You’re So Cheap’ and new track ‘Something More Original’ with its My Chemical Romance-esque sound . The guys easily demonstrated why they’ve managed to make their mark on the punk rock scene this year .

Ramping up the energy within one song, SWMRS took to the stage with their engaging set.

As Cole and Max Becker switched between lead vocals throughout the night,  this created the perfect blend of the SWMRS sound showcasing their versatility.

Set highlights included ‘Figuring It Out’ with its sing-along chorus and ‘Uncool’ which introduced mini mosh pits to the venue,

Ending their set on ‘Drive North’,  frontman Cole Becker made the brave decision to jump into the small crowd to join them for a dance, a move which delighted those who had bounced about for the band’s set as they squeezed in a selfie.

The intimate fairy-lit venue provided the perfect atmosphere for SWMRS to showcase their unique sound and we’re sure we’ll be hearing a lot more from the punk rockers in the very near future!
