We The Kings

On the 5th February 2011, We The Kings played The Cockpit in Leeds and took the venue by storm with their high energy songs and strong audience incorporation throughout their set.

The crowd had been warmed up with the support acts I See Stars, All Forgotten and VersaEmerge, but We The Kings managed to captivate the hearts of the crowd leaving them spellbound.

The band came on to their hit song ‘Skyway Avenue’ and from then on it was apparent how much audience support the band would get as the whole crowd sang along, especially the front section who began to jump in time. The energy from this section moved throughout the crowd in the biggest room of The Cockpit and frontman Travis Clark thanked the crowd as soon as he had finished the song saying; ‘you guys are fucking crazy!’ and launched straight in to ‘She Takes Me High’.

Throughout the set, the band expressed how much they loved the audience participation, and taught the crowd dance moves to ‘What You Do To Me’. Travis also did most of the speaking to the crowd, on behalf of the whole band, yet this did not manage to affect the morale of the audience. Travis also encouraged the crowd in The Cockpit to make a ‘W’ (creating a W for ‘We The Kings’) with their hands for their hit ‘Heaven Can Wait’.

We The Kings also covered Jimmy Eat World’s famous song ‘The Middle’, which received a great reception. In the last chorus of the song, the band insisted that a circle pit was started and the crowd certainly didn’t disappoint on the band’s orders! With covering such a famous song, the band showcased their talent and versatility; not only as singers but also performers, which in turn made the audience that extra bit more appreciative towards the Floridian four piece.

The band played a strong 12 song set singing songs from both their albums, ‘We The Kings’ and ‘Smile Kid’, however they did not play any songs from their new and upcoming album. After the gig, many fans expressed their upset to each other that Leeds wouldn’t get to hear any new songs, yet despite this it did not seem to dampen anyone’s mood.

The band encored with arguably their biggest hit ‘Check Yes Juliet’ which received an extremely strong reception as the audience were singing, chanting and dancing along.

We The King’s new album is expected to be released in the early summer of this year and according to Travis’ twitter the album will be ‘Great’ and feature Josh Franchesci of ‘You Me At Six’.

We can’t wait!
