Radio 1 announces new schedule losing its dedicated BBC Introducing show

radio 1BBC Radio 1 has today released their new programme schedule dropping its dedicated BBC Introducing show.

Responsible for bringing the likes of The 1975, Bombay Bicycle Club, Nina Nesbitt and Florence and the Machine to the spotlight, bands and keen music enthusiasts are feeling rather disappointed at the latest announcement.

Instead, a BBC Introducing ‘slot’ will take place during Huw Stephen’s show throughout the week from 10pm to 1am from Mondays to Wednesdays.

New introductions include a three-hour rock segment with Daniel P Carter from 7pm to 10pm on Sunday nights.

Speaking of the changes, Ben Cooper Controller at Radio 1 & 1Xtra, said: “These cuts to our budget are hurting, it means I have had to make some tough choices and say goodbye to some friends and respected colleagues. I believe these new schedules continue to innovate, reflect and celebrate the UK’s youth and music culture.”

The changes are due to begin on September 1.
