Review | Abandoman: Life + Rhymes | Edinburgh Fringe 2016

Are you ready to join Abandoman’s hip hop crew?

Ireland’s hip hop improvisers Abandoman are veterans of the Festival Fringe and this year’s show ‘Life + Rhymes’ showcases why the duo have remained a firm Edinburgh favourite.

Transporting you back to 1993 to follow their rise to fame, this year’s show offers you an access-all-areas pass to the highs and lows of their musical journey.

It’s hard not be fascinated by the lightning speed in which the duo create songs from simple word suggestions, with Rob Broderick’s audience banter overflowing throughout the hour.

From two shot espresso woes to an addiction to cabbages, with a strangely paprika obsessed audience on the night, the crowd were fully immersed from the get-go, offering up their on-the-spot suggestions for the improv song creation with a ceilidh dance party in-between.

With a hilarious plot line interwoven throughout, the hip hop rapping duo serve up a show brimming with songs to take you on a journey full of laughter, wit and wonder.

Abandoman have crafted a show which is the perfect start to a night out at the Fringe.
