Live Review | Natives | Glasgow Cathouse

Natives are no stranger to the stages in Glasgow’s many music venues.

From their Not Advised days, support slots with the likes of Mallory Knox and Anberlin, to headline dates of their own, the band has built up a fan base in the city over the past few years.

Supporting Blitz Kids on their UK tour, their latest Scottish venture brought them to the Cathouse for an intimate show.

There was a surprisingly quiet feel to the gig, despite the great tour line-up, yet this didn’t affect the band’s performance in any way.

Not only did they manage to maintain full energy from start to finish, by the second song they’d won over the crowd. Hands were in the air and dance moves out on the floor.

The band know how to put on a strong set, from a little singalong including ‘This Island’, a definite set highlight, to their new single ‘The Horizon’ adding a unique drum mix into the set.

When bands like Natives perform in these small venues, you always feel like you’re enjoying a secret set that everyone else is missing out on, nestled amongst the larger venues across the city.

Many bands gracing these smaller stages don’t leave a lasting impression, but no matter how many times we’ve caught Natives live – their energy has been full, the tracks continuously catchy and we’d happily see them all over again.

With the band’s imminent announcement of their headline tour in February, we can’t wait to see what their new album has in store and for their return to Scotland.
