Live Review | The Magnets – The Naked 80s

The Magnets Naked 80s Edinburgh Fringe

With a track record of outstanding performances on the International circuit, from Adelaide Fringe to Glastonbury, The Magnets returned to Edinburgh for a 13 date run at the 70th Edinburgh Festival Fringe.

Their first themed show, at the beautiful Spiegeltent Palais Du Variete at Assembly George Square Gardens, The Naked 80s is the ultimate 80’s mix tape and sees the sextet bring their unique flavour to a whole host of classics from the 1980s.

Kicking off the performance with the Survivor classic ‘Eye of the Tiger’, the show is a packed hour of hit after hit including nods to George Michael, Salt N Peppa and Madonna before bringing the show to a close with Michael Jackson’s ‘Man in the Mirror’.

Vocal gymnastics and heaven-sent harmonies can be expected from the six-man sound machine, but undoubtedly the star of the show is Hobbit – the sensational beatboxer and UK loop-station champion. His outstanding skills are showcased in the only way he knows how – lights down and microphone up. Hobbit wowed the sold out crowd with a five-minute solo that had the whole room captivated and wanting more.

The perfect feel-good hour of entertainment, I mean who can resist an 80’s Acappella mash-up?
