Maroon 5 ft Wiz Khalifa; Payphone

Release Date: 18th June 2012

‘Payphone’ provides us with a flavour of what we can expect from Maroon 5’s new album, ‘Overexposed’. Supported by rapper Wiz Khalifa, Maroon 5 showcase what they do best – singing about lost love. It’s no surprise this song has done so well, reaching number one in the UK, Canada and Italy. The song also debuted at number three on the Billboard Hot 100, after selling 493,000 copies in its first week.

The composition of the song is fantastic – with heavy synths & beats that you can’t help but tap along to. A brilliant falsetto by Adam Levine adds to the track and without him, I feel the song would have lucked lustre. Wiz Khalifa’s rap is excellent in content and his talent is clear. However, I can’t help thinking it’s not really necessary and doesn’t add much to the track as a whole.

Overall, the track is catchy and makes me extremely excited for their new album if this if anything to go by.
