Axel Flóvent has released his new album ‘Away From This Dream’.
Out via Nettwerk, the album was recorded and mixed in London with British producers MyRiot (London Grammar, Aurora).
Speaking of his album, Axel said: “I’ve always been a big fan of artists who evolve on each album. I don’t feel limited in terms of what I can do. It’s important for me to be able to explore a variety of sounds to show different sides of myself. I wanted to create an album I could perform with a band for a lot of people at a festival or you could listen to on headphones alone.”
To celebrate his album release, Axel shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Away From This Dream’.
Sam Fender – The Dying Light
This whole record influenced me immensely during the writing of my album, I’ve been a big fan of Sam since his earliest releases. I’m very easily attracted to albums that feel like a tribute to a legend and in this instance Bruce Springsteen is all over this one and it made me think of my own way to pay tribute to someone I grew up listening to which was Phil Collins.
The 1975 – Oh Caroline
With every record The 1975 do, about 10 things that inspire me and my writing brain. With this record Matty and the gang went all in with the sound they have been developing this past decade and had fun with it. It feels like a tribute to themselves which I love and it made me relax in my steps and follow what I really needed to do with my record.
Hatchie – This Enchanted
My obsession with this song during my writing only grew with every listen. With this one and many others, I got reminded that you can do about a million things with the same chord progression so I tried to not be too strict with myself and wrote about a 30 songs with the same chord progression because I felt like it and I’ve never had this much fun writing before.
Phil Collins – Another Day in Paradise
Phil is one of my mom’s favourite artists so I grew up to his music and my first love for music was the Tarzan soundtrack. If I would pick one song that has it all for me it would be this one. The chorus is everything, it has an amazing synth line, lush drums and amazing harmonise. What more do you need? It’s safe to say I aimed for all of these things on my record.
Boy Meets Girl – Waiting for a Star to Fall
Every day during the writing of my record I listened to a radio station in Iceland called “80’s Flashback” and this song came on I think about 100 times every single day and I loved it every time. I really wanted to capture the hopeful youthful romance feel of this song in my songwriting.
