Akela | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Summoning For You’

Akela has released their new single ‘Summoning For You’.

The track is the first taster of their upcoming conceptual EP ‘Two Hearts On Trial’.

Speaking of the single, Akela said: “After releasing my last project, I felt compelled to go deeper, to create from a place of raw honesty. This new record touches on something incredibly personal, something that has haunted me for years. Heartbreak can be such a heavy burden, and for me, it truly was. That’s why I envisioned a world, a story, where I could express these emotions I now feel ready to share with the world.

“In ‘Summoning For You’, we are introduced to the central figures—the hero and the lover. This marks the first act of the journey, a tragedy in the making. It’s the beginning—the first spring, a summon for love—framed by a divine prophecy of doom and devastation. It’s the start of a new chapter, a glimpse into a story that I’m excited to unravel for you all—a tale of young love, heartbreak, and deep self-reflection.”

To celebrate their EP release, Akela shared with us 5 tracks that influenced ‘Summoning For You’.

Björk – Arisen My Senses
This song is easily one of my favorite produced tracks of all time. It wasn’t until a few years ago that I fully delved into Björk’s catalog. The musicality, transparency and honesty in her albums have truly changed the way I approach songwriting and music production. ‘Arisen My Senses’ is one of the most genuine yet passionate love songs ever written. When developing ‘Summoning For You’, I was seeking to explore the crossover between organic orchestral sounds and experimental drum programming in Björk and Arca’s production of this song. Björk’s artistry and capability to develop conceptual sonic and visual projects is something I can only wish for myself in my career.

Ariana Grande – Nasty
When it comes to harmony arrangements and vocal stacks, Ariana will always be my number-one inspiration and mentor. Her voice and style have profoundly influenced me, and songs like nasty perfectly showcase her skill in vocal arrangement. To me, this song is both sensual and nostalgic, which is something I wanted to evoke in ‘Summoning For You’, the fire of passion and devotion, with a pop and R&B sound. We’re both Libra moons and I can’t help but resonate with the way she so blindly explores falling in love.

Caroline Polachek – Blood And Butter
This song (and most importantly the album that it belongs to ‘Desire, I Want To Turn Into You’) became the soundtrack of the first half of last year. It beautifully and obsessively explores themes of love and passion, which were pivotal influences for me when developing the concept and emotions behind ‘Summoning For You’ and my next EP. The deep attention to detail in this song when it comes to lyrics, delivery and production heavily inspire me.

Beyoncé – CUFF IT – WETTER REMIX
I’ve always been a Beyoncé fan. I loved ‘Lemonade’ when it came out during my teenage years and, of course, listened to her as a kid. But I felt like I had to level up to fully grasp the immense talent of the greatest performer of our time. It wasn’t until the Renaissance tour hit Edinburgh that I revisited ‘Renaissance’ and her entire discography. Since then, she has become, in my eyes, the ultimate artist—her intricacy in production, songwriting, arrangement, and delivery is unmatched. The deeply mature and wise concepts in her latest albums leave me speechless. This remix, like many songs in her catalog, serves as my bible for R&B performance. The way Beyoncé explores sensuality and love has absolutely inspired me in creating ‘Summoning For You’.

Chloe Roze – Like It Better
Chloe Roze has been a close friend and collaborator of mine for the last five years and has truly had a profound impact in my songwriting. After my last EP, I wanted to dive deeper and compose from a place of honesty and truth. Chloe’s natural talent and raw emotional approach to lyrics and pop melodies will always be a source of inspiration for me. Chloe and I developed a demo for ‘Like It Better’ together back in 2022, and then Marc Barnes and Chloe finished what the track has ultimately become. I am endlessly fascinated by Chloe’s voice and her ability to evoke emotion and connect listeners to her message. At the end of the day, I am, and will always be, her biggest fan.
