Rock ‘n’ roll to cleanse the filthy soul is how I would describe the music of this four-piece band from Peoria, Illinois.
Welcome to Dirt Wizard and their latest five track EP ‘No Son of Mine‘.
Music that just smashes you in the face starts this EP with opening track ‘Amis Tabu’, no holds barred scuzzy rock, fiery guitars and heavy drumming, just what you need to start the moment.
‘Fleas’ hits the point of no return, there’s no let up here with their fast punk style music and vocals, it’s punk with an American attitude. There’s a sense of Nirvana influence in this track, which is a great salute to the legends of the 90’s grunge rock era.
A loud crushing drum sound with a sexy sounding guitar riff leads us in to the next song ‘Ged of Earhsea’, again with a 90’s rock metal feel to it. It’s music to get you head banging, that and the dirty filthy bass line being played out, gets the brain cells ready for more. This is a reminiscing track. Dirt Wizard know exactly what they are doing, five tracks to make you to want more.
‘Devil’s Velvet’ is up next with a guitar riff that is constant with a good rhythm and beautiful bass within this tune, stoner rock that is at its almost fineness.
Last tune of the EP is ‘Seasons of the sun’ which has a Black Sabbath intro to it, fast guitar riff heavy drumming repetitive and not giving the listener any mercy to regroup to get their senses back. The track is another salute to influences from the past, even though I am saying that, this is a band that sounds like no other I have heard.
This is Stoner rock without any fear; the pressure it gives on the ears shows why speakers were invented. Welcome to the world of Dirt Wizard and make sure your water bill is up-to-date, because you will need a wash after this.
