Album Review | House Of Hats | This Love

house of hatsHouse of Hats is an upcoming quartet with a lot to offer the folk music scene.

Their highly anticipated debut album, This Love is compilation of heartfelt tunes, radiating with alluring instrumental combinations and witty lyrics set to blow your mind.

Opening the album with their title track, This Love surprises and entices your senses from the first note. It’s delicate acoustic sound and angelic vocalizations leave you relaxed and longing for endless calm. This longing continues in to the second track, Close To Me, with a slight upbeat nature that races your heartbeat ever so slightly.

Their current single, King of The Average Pace is a cheeky song that gets you up on the dance floor. I love this song for its witty lyrics and its musical collation as a whole. It’s fun and has you singing along, definitely my favourite song. Rivers Will Runslows the pace down and opens in acapella. The pace grows as the song progresses and really paints a clear picture of rivers running.

Right Behind Youtakes the tempo down and allowing Noddy’s vocals to shine throughout the track. Joannefollows in suit, but takes the tempo up slightly as Alex takes the vocal lead once more. It’s a fun song that retains the longing and pursuing nature of the previous tracks. Gold on the other hand showcases the complimentary nature of the two lead vocalists as they sing of time well spend with the person you love.

Home Is Where The Heart Istakes different turn as the piano is added to the record. It’s a beautiful song that leaves you thinking of home. This song leaves you warm and cosy. In contrast Wonderland has a playful spark that leaves you in want of adventure and mystery, delving into and surrendering to your curiosities. No Mancontinues the playfulness, but has a hint of childishness to it. There’s an epic-ness to the track that leaves you in awe and draws you in.

This Lovecloses the album with the same song, but this time, it’s sung by the Noddy. It’s a clever way to open and close an album, very clever.

Overall, This Love is one you’ll want to have on your iTunes on replay. It’ll sooth you on your most stressful day; it’ll get you in a good mood on a bad day; and it’ll just be your best friend when you need a cup of coffee.
