Archie Faulks | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Blackout’

Archie Faulks has shared the influenced behind his latest single ‘Blackout’.

Released ahead of his sold-out headline show at London’s St Pancras Old Church in November, the single premiered on Radio 1 ‘Chilled Show’ with Jamz Supernova in for Phil Taggart.

Making quite the name for himself thanks to his enchanting live sets, 2018 has also seen Archie perform across Holland and Germany before heading to the US including sold out shows in New York.

To celebrate the success of his recent single, Archie shared with us five tracks that influenced the release.

keeter Davis – End of the World
One of my all-time favourites. Heartbreaking and not holding anything back. The sentiment is full of hyperbole, but that catches the extent to which the singer/writer feels in the moment of conception.

Asgeir – Dreaming
A man I supported on tour for a month a few years ago, ‘Dreaming’ is one of my favourite songs of his (Asgeir). Beautiful backing with a divine guitar instrumental solo three-quarters of the way through. ““Now I know I’m dreaming”” is the main lyrics and I guess the meaning is similar to ‘Blackout’ – “In dreams, anything can exist, the perfect way you want them as well.”

Dali Da – Parole Parole
Just a brilliant song and duet with Alain Deloin. She is complaining that all she gets from this man is words and wants something more powerful, more real.

Frank Sinatra – Autumn Leaves
The overall feeling of this song is one of intense longing. Waiting for his lover to return while autumn leaves fall. It is another example of someone putting the great pain but also the beauty of love into a song. I feel the skill of doing so effectively has been lost from modern music somewhat. The meaning behind a lot of modern songs seems to taint this with ‘I didn’t need you- or I am strong enough on my own’ which are powerful in their own way, but the idea that someone is nothing without their lost love – and pines from them each day – is a message which captures me.

Roy Orbison – In Dreams
One of the absolute greats. Sung about dreaming a lot. Considering the personal heartbreak Roy felt in his life it was no surprise he retreated to the warmth of a dream: where all can be perfect if you will it to be so. Nothing much more needs to be said about this song, apart from that it is beautiful and all should listen.
