Bang Bang Romeo | 5 tracks that influenced ‘Shame On You’ EP

Bang Bang Romeo have released their new five-track EP ‘Shame On You’.

Recorded in Los Angeles, New York and the UK, the trio unveiled the EP as an insight of things to come from the release of their debut album this winter.

To celebrate the release, Bang Bang Romeo shared five singles that shaped the release of ‘Shame On You’.

Imagine Dragons – Natural
Imagine Dragons have been a huge influence over the way we’ve built our songs in the studio. This song, in particular, uses space really well and we looked back at this a lot when trying to find ways of getting more dynamics into our tunes.

Muse – Starlight
Muse are the masters of creating something that belongs on the radio, but also finding a way to blend in their individuality. We’re all big fans, particularly of their live shows, but this tune really demonstrates how they can build around one melody and create a piece of music that really sticks in your head. It’s the way that they utilise drama that we really love.

Jack White/Alicia Keys (Bond Theme) – Another Way To Die
The guitar tones, the groove, the staccato piano and the dynamics. This tune has everything we want to achieve. Add that to the fact we’ve always dreamed of creating our Bond theme and you know why this is such a big influence on our music.

Hans Zimmer- Inception Soundtrack
Something a bit different with this one… Throughout our whole trip to America, we basically listened to the Hans Zimmer live in Prague show on repeat, and it had a huge influence on the strings and horns we wanted to incorporate. Another master of dynamics and we love the way he’s able to build melodies. Our ultimate goal is to have Hans do an orchestral arrangement of our album and perform it with us in space – achievable right?!

Gorillaz – Feel Good
When we first went into the studio with the guys from Heavy in LA, Gorillaz were the first band to be bounced around the room for influence. In ‘Shame On You’ in particular we built the tune around a riff and a drum beat, and tried making it as simple and consistent as possible. Using melody to build sections rather than over the top production. Gorillaz are great at that!
