Citylightz | 5 tracks that influenced ‘My Life’

Citylightz have released their new single ‘My Life’.

The new single comes ahead of the band’s final instalment of their ‘Rock ‘n’ Road’ EP triology, due out later this year.

Speaking of their new single, the band said: “The track is an uplifting anthem about self-belief, and doing what you want to do while people watch on by.”

To celebrate their new single release, we caught up with Citylightz to discover the influences behind their latest single, including Arctic Monkeys, ACDC and The Killers.

Arctic Monkeys – R U Mine? | Listen via Spotify
From raw production to cheeky lyrics the Arctic Monkeys have been one of our biggest influences from the beginning. We grew up with their debut and in many ways related to the music and lyrics which we have carried through.

Foo Fighters – Monkey Wrench | Listen via Spotify
Another fast-paced floor-stomping badboy from start to finish dragging you through the song. Early Foos massively influence our rockier side with that high energy punch you in the face guitar sound!

The Specials – Rat Race | Listen via Spotify
The Specials and Ska music in general is obviously a big influence to our sound you can hear the upstrokes and offbeat rhythms on all of our stuff and most definitely in My Life. ‘Rat Race’ melodies and harmonies can definitely be heard throughout.

The Killers – Somebody Told Me | Listen via Spotify
High energy anthemic and melodic chorus and all-round absolute stomper are things that can be said about ‘Somebody Told Me’ & our single ‘My Life’. The Killers have always been a massive influence of ours.

AC/DC – Shoot to Thrill | Listen via Spotify
From that offbeat intro riff to epic guitar solos and stadium choruses ACDC are top of our list when it comes to influences. The carefree attitude and that loud and proud sound is something we definitely like to take from the might ACDC shoot to thrill is a sing along classic from the first time your hear it!
