‘Dirty Dudes apparel is more than just a clothing line, it’s a way of life. Yeah, you could wash that shirt, you could take a shower, you could put that deodorant on. But will you stay true to the dirty lifestyle? Hell yeah you will, you’re different. Throw on a Dirty Dudes shirt and be proud to live the dirty life. If you are one of the brave individuals dirty enough to wear our Dirty Dudes apparel.’
Dirty Dudes apparel is the work of Memphis May Fire‘s drummer Eric Molesworth. Dirty Dudes was set out to represent the tour life; the life musicians live whilst on the road. The clothing line started out as a way of life, rather than your typical company, and this is what makes the brand stand out. It connects the apparel not only with the artists, but involves the fans; bringing together the complete ‘Dirty lifestyle’.
We were lucky enough to catch up with Eric Molesworth to hear more about the company.
What was the reason behind the initial set up of the clothing line?
In the beginning the clothing aspect was non-existent. I started Dirty Dudes to represent the lifestyle that myself, bands I was touring with and fans coming out to these shows were living by. We all were dirty, sweaty and broke with one common denominator; Rock and Roll.
Where did you come up with the name for the company?
My inspiration came from both my friends and touring.
Have you ever been in a bands touring van? It is disgusting!! haha.
There are sweaty clothes thrown everywhere, old food sitting out, it’s always hot and humid and at least two dudes are sick at a time. All you musicians out there know how it is, to say the least it’s not pretty!
The name however came straight from my buddies on tour. We finish playing a show and are all standing around covered head to toe in sweat. We haven’t showered in days are drinking cheap 32 oz cans of beer and loving life.
We’re just a bunch of DIRTY DUDES.
In your motto it explains about ‘staying true to the dirty lifestyle’, how can you best describe that to us?
It’s really about staying true to yourself, loving life and living it to the fullest, no matter how dirty or broke you are because of it.
It’s about rocking out, partying and being dirty as hell yet lookin’ good doing it!
That’s where my clothing line comes into play; I wanted to create cheap threads that are comfortable and look fresh, yet are still affordable for us broke dirty dudes!
How are you managing to balance band life and the apparel company?
I have an awesome team of dirty dudes and dudettes behind me, which definitely helps when I am on the road. Any down time I have, however, is 100 percent dedicated to expanding and spreading the Dirty Dudes word.
Does the clothing line currently endorse any bands and if not have you any plans to do so in the future?
Right now Dirty Dudes endorses a small handful of bands including ‘Sky Eats Airplane’, ‘We Came as Romans’, ‘Broadway’, my band ‘Memphis May Fire’ and a few others.
We definitely are looking to endorse more bands in the near future.
What can we look forward to in the future with Dirty Dudes Apparel?
We as dirty dudes and dudettes are the future!!
This is something I have always wanted to do and we won’t stop until we take over the world! I want every dirty dude and dudette out there to feel like he or she has a voice and will be heard. Let’s be dirty, be seen, rock out and party.
Dirty Dudes will debut a new line this winter which I am so stoked on. I had the help from Alexis Salvador of Desecrate art (myspace.com/desecrateart), who is a talented new artist with a lot of promise in the designing process. We will also be teaming up with a few other big names as well as bands in the future so keep your eyes and ears open!
I think we could all benefit from taking the Dirty Dude’s motto on in our lives; we should not only look good, but feel good, live life to the fullest and be true to ourselves!
